5 ways to bring out your personal style at home

It’s been a whirlwind of a month for Past Basket as we near the end of January. That happened all too quickly! We made our yearly pilgrimage to the Atlanta Home, Gift, and Apparel Show, where we were doused in beautiful ideas for making your house a home in 2016.

As I made my way through the rows of vendors and designers, one thought came to mind – bringing adventure to 2016 and hosting more gatherings. Whether a well-planned fête or an impromptu BBQ, make this year one of happy congregation. Here are 5 ways you can mold your home into a visual representation of your heart and soul:

#1 – Look for an artisan

If there is one element of home that makes the staff at Past Basket giddy, it’s the artisans we feature. Just as your spirit draws people to you, so should the expressions of home further define your personality. From potters and wood makers to intricate textile artisans, we seek out stories of individuals that are not only interesting, but inspiring. (Image, R. Wood Studio pottery)

#2 – Bring your story to Past Basket

You’re absolutely in love with your grandmother’s silver and it pains your heart to attempt to swap it out for a new set of flatware. So don’t! We encourage you to bring in any sentiment that has been passed down and we will use these cherished pieces to create a home that weaves family history with your personal taste.

#3 – Embrace pops of color

If your tabletop design style is drawn to a whitewash setting, that’s lovely! However, you’d be surprised how simple pops of pattern and color added to your table will take gatherings from pretty to gasp-worthy. The Atlanta Show proved refreshing to see colorful hues after the grays and neutrals of 2015. Juliska’s Berry & Thread collection, for example, is a brilliant setting that can be easily paired with seasonal patterns and colorful artisan elements. (Image, Juliska)

#4 – Don’t forget the gentleman in your life

Spouses are becoming more and more interested in home, and why not? Tap into your partner’s style by inviting him to wedding registry events and scroll through our Facebook page together to get ideas on how to make your house a visual statement of your life together.

#5 – Talk to us. We’re good listeners.

Defining your personal style doesn’t happen in one day and certainly not in one shopping trip. As your life changes, your family expands, or your address changes, year after year we are here to help you fine tune and reinvent your home.

How are you going make 2016 more of an adventure for your home?
