To say we are supporters of the artisan is an understatement, as Past Basket has been featuring creative designers since the opening of our first shop in St. Charles, Illinois, in 1976. Not only do we like to showcase artisans in store, but we love to invite them in to visit!
We will be featuring Devon Di Iorio, a self-taught calligrapher and pyrographic artist on November 10, from 11 AM – 5 PM. Influenced by nature, Devon takes the art of calligraphy and the elements of birch bark to create a unique and natural piece of art.
Just think about all the possibilities when using birch bark to customize a special event! From calligraphy place cards to stand alone pieces on Birch that document a life occasion, Devon uses her talents in art and lettering to truly create a family heirloom.
“Over many years I have experimented with different forms of art, but fell in love with calligraphy,” says Devon. “I learned most of my calligraphy techniques through books; however, I found that I rarely stick to the book alone!” – Devon
Using wood-burning tools, Devon carefully burns calligraphy onto the bark for a unique, natural piece of art. Her portfolio also includes custom place cards. We invite you to experience Devon’s work for yourself and get inspired to weave her elements into your next gathering.
